Private Yoga Instruction FAQ

  • Who do you work with privately?

I work with everyone! I especially love to work with beginners and athletes.

In private spaces like residences, Airbnbs, VRBOs, etc.: I typically only work with women and non-binary folx.

Men seeking private yoga instruction from me will need to find a more public place for us to work together (such as your condo’s gym, a venue rental for an additional fee, etc.) or we can work together virtually!

If we have worked together previously with semi-private lessons or another offering I have, like a class series: I may be open to working with you privately. However, this is the exception and not the rule.

  • How should I prepare for our first session?

All I ask is that we have enough space to comfortably practice together, and to ensure that our space will remain distraction-free during our time. This may mean crating or putting pets in another room, asking your family to not disturb the session, turning your phone to silent, etc. This maximizes the efficiency of our time together. Preventing or minimizing distractions ahead of time is much appreciated!

Otherwise, all you need to do is make sure you have completed any intake forms I send you, prior to our first session. The further in advance I receive these documents, the better, as it allows me to plan for our first session together.

    Prior experience is not required!

  • What do I need for our first practice?

You just need a yoga mat!

I recommend wearing comfortable, breathable clothes that are not too baggy.

Other helpful items: water bottle, a blanket to fold or a bolster. If you have any other favorite props, feel free to have them ready!

  • How often should I receive private instruction?

This is totally up to you, and largely depends on what your goals are.

At least once a week is recommended. I think once or twice a week is a great start for beginners.

I provide supplemental instruction for at-home practice between sessions, for those committed to multiple yoga sessions. This allows students to confidently practice on days that we do not meet.

However, some students may desire a more consistent practice with a private yoga teacher - whether it is because the student desires a more rigorous practice or because the additional structure and support helps keeps them on track. Great! I can accommodate that as well, with up to 3 sessions per week.

We can discuss practice frequency during your optional free consultation and/or during our first session together, if you are not sure.

  • I would like to receive yoga instruction on a consistent basis. Do you provide a discount for multiple sessions?

Wonderful! I highly recommend a regular yoga practice, especially if you have particular goals in mind.

I do provide discounts for students who commit to a consistent practice! Choose from multiple session packages (5 or 10 sessions) or memberships (monthly or 3-month, weekly or biweekly)!

Note: There are a limited number of membership slots, as they provide the largest discounts and give you priority booking (guaranteed weekly or biweekly sessions).

We can discuss pricing options during your free consultation, or via email.

  • What are your travel fees?

There are no travel fees for those who are located within 25 miles or 30-minutes of my location in Phoenix, 85035.

Applies to many areas within Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Peoria, Avondale, Glendale, Litchfield Park, Tempe, Goodyear, Surprise, and Tolleson.

(Some areas may not apply, depending on the distance/travel time).

If the travel distance is over 25 miles or if the travel time is more than 30-minutes, there is a reasonable travel fee added to your session(s). We can discuss this in more detail during your (optional) free consultation or via email.

  • Do you travel to [city in AZ]? It's not within your included travel distance/time.

If the travel distance is over 25 miles or if the travel time is longer than 30-minutes, there is a reasonable travel fee added to your session(s). We can discuss this in more detail during your (optional) free consultation or via email.

Once I know where your requested location is, I will know if a travel fee will be required for distance. Travel times can vary greatly in the Phoenix area. I estimate the travel time by using your address, your requested day(s), time(s), and Google Maps’ depart/arrive time feature. (Consider the rush hour times!) This way, I can provide a more accurate estimate before our first session, for your approval. I aim to be as much transparent as possible so there are no surprises!

Examples of cities that fall into this category may include: Cave Creek, Carefree, Anthem, Fountain Hills, Gilbert, Chandler, and certain areas of Scottsdale, Mesa, and Peoria.

  • Why do you provide props, like blocks and straps, for no added cost?

Simply because I care about your safety. Students should never have to choose between paying extra for props they may need or possibly hurting themselves/pushing themselves farther than their bodies are ready to go. I have moral qualms about charging extra to use props like these, unlike many other teachers and mobile companies.

I also want you to get the best practice that you can. I truly believe in the value that props offer students - they are often necessary to help get you into some poses! Even if someone is able to do a pose, props can still be helpful. Similarly, many students think they are not capable of doing a certain pose, but they really just need some additional support from props to get them there. Everyone has their own feelings about using props, so it is your choice to utilize them or not. Just know that they are available and I will offer guidance on how to use them to modify poses.

Or just ignore the props! That’s okay too - this is your yoga practice.

  • Can I receive 45-minute yoga instruction?

Yes! If for any reason 60 or 90-minute yoga sessions are not a good fit and you would rather receive 45-minute instruction on a regular basis, I am happy to accommodate you.

I only require that we have at least four (4) 60-minute or 90-minute sessions first.
